The first words spoken by Benedict XVI when he was elected Pope in 2015 were, “After the great John Paul II, the cardinals elected me, a simple, humble worker in the vineyard of the Lord.” These last words inspired the name “Vinea Domini” for a line of new wines meant to represent the excellence of the Gotto d’oro production, with the aim of enhancing the autochthonous grape varieties and the DOC and DOCG wines of Lazio, giving them the recognition they fully deserve.
After a long and meticulous work, the first bottles of Vinea Domini were produced in 2017 from six single varieties: Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Viognier, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Petit Verdot, deliberately never in contact with wood for an immediate and pleasant identification of the grapes vinified without blending.
In 2019, the line was complemented by four autochthonous wines from Lazio, namely Roma DOC Rosso and Bianco, Frascati Superiore DOCG and Cesanese del Piglio DOCG. The most recent wines that boast the Vinea Domini brand are “Friccicore” and “Luccicore”, a varietal Malvasia del Lazio and an unprecedented rosé produced with Syrah grapes, respectively.
